Welcome!

Dear Taylor County Voters,

Thank you for a great Election Year !!! With 9,178 voters participating in the 2012 General Election, Taylor County saw a voter turnout of 73%. Statewide that placed us 31 out of 67 counties. Not as great as I had hoped, but I am still very appreciative of those citizens who decided to let their voices be heard. The 2012 Election cycle brought with it several obstacles, but with perseverance and determination we made it through. The length of the General Election ballot was certainly difficult, but the voters in Taylor County used their sample ballots to their advantage and took them to the polls thus aiding in speeding up the voting process. Consequently, I was glad to see that the longest wait time experienced by a voter in our county was approximately thirty minutes. There has been much talk about the growing number of early voters and the mass number of absentee ballots cast during an election; however Taylor County voters still tend to enjoy visiting their polling sites on Election Day with almost half of the voter turnout coming from the total number of ballots cast at a precinct. The other half was split between early voting and absentee (mail) ballots. With over 150 election team members trained and ready to staff the precincts and help with the setup of each site, the election cycle proceeded without any election related issues. Taylor County’s poll workers dedicate many hours in training to ensure that the election laws are followed. We could never run successful elections without our dedicated and trustworthy election team members. As we wrap up the 2012 election cycle we look forward to the many tasks that now must be done to ensure the integrity of our voter rolls. We will also embark on maintaining our election equipment so that it is ready for the next election. I would like to end by thanking the citizens of Taylor County for allowing me to serve you for another four years. I am deeply humbled by the responsibility you have entrusted in me. Even though there will never be a perfect election, it is my goal to strive for error-free elections and to ensure integrity of the electoral process. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have a question, comment, or complaint regarding your voter registration or voting experience. My office is located on the second floor of the County Courthouse and my door is always open. Please feel free to call, email or stop by at any time.

With kind regards,
Dana Southerland
